About me
I am an amateur photographer based in Somerset. I began taking photographs in 2016. My husband, who was already a keen photographer, would keep stopping to take photographs when we were out and about and I would get frustrated waiting for him. So he suggested I should get a camera and join in. My first camera was a Sony a6000, a mirrorless camera which I found comfortable to hold and easy to use, and although I didn’t really know what I was doing I surprised myself with some of the images I managed to create. And so I muddled on for a few more years.
At the beginning of 2023 I joined a photography club and that provided the motivation for me to improve my photographic knowledge and skills. In 2023 I participated in ‘Digital photography: creating and sharing better images’, a 10 week course offered by the Open University and the Royal Photographic Society. In 2024 I took another OU/RPS course ‘Digital Photography: Discover your genre and develop your style’. I learnt a lot from both of these courses, but certainly still have a lot of learning to do.
I have now upgraded my camera to a Sony a6700 and mostly use a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 lens. For now I’m just looking for interesting images wherever I am, but I particularly like black and white and street photography.
